Prophets spoke Gods’ word to his people, priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of his people, and kings ruled over God’s people. Typically, these three offices of prophet, priest, and king were distinct from one another. This means that kings were not priests or prophets, or a priest could not function as a prophet or king. But we will see how Jesus fills all three roles at the same time. Jesus is a prophet in that he reveals God’s word. But he does so to a greater degree because he just doesn’t speak God’s word, but he is also God’s word in human flesh (John 1:1). Jesus is greater than any Old Testament priest because he is the perfect mediator between God and man. As King, Jesus is both the ruler and deliverer of his people. The Jews of Jesus’ time expected a political king (Matthew 21), but they didn’t realize that for Jesus to rule over the world, he must first die for the world (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). By dying for the world, he provides an atoning sacrifice so that every person can be forgiven of their sins. And when Jesus returns, he will rule this entire earth as king and every tribe, tongue, and nation will bow down before his name (Revelation 7:9). • RECOMMENDED RESOURCE FOR DIGITAL WORSHIP MUSIC: • https://www.aweandreverence.com/ • https://maskil.church/ • WHAT I USE TO STUDY THE BIBLE: • https://partners.faithlife.com/click.... • FACEBOOK: / theologyislife101 • INSTAGRAM: / theologyislife101 • MY BOOK: https://wipfandstock.com/978172527092... • Timestamps: • 0:00 Introduction • 0:38 Jesus as Prophet • 3:15 Jesus as Priest • 5:17 Jesus as King • 7:20 Recommended Resource for Further Study
