A story of gay hate crime. • • A trailer for Crime Investigation Australia which investigated the murders in 1989 of Ross Warren and John Russell and the 1985 disappearance of Frenchman Gilles Mattaini. The incidents have occurred at Tamarama (near Bondi), Sydney, Australia. • • Whilst a coroner at the first inquest for John Russell concludes his death was not suspicious, this finding was overturned ten years later when the inquest is re-opened. Respected Deputy State Coroner Jacqueline Milledge finds that John Russell was murdered. • • The inquest hears he dies from a fall from a cliff, and the positioning of his body suggests he went over backwards. He had hair on his hand which was not his (and unfortunately later lost). • • Ross Warren went missing (also 1989), with his car found parked at Tamarama. His body was never found. As a result of other circumstancial evidence the coroner was also able to conclude he too was murdered. • • Gilles Mattaini, a French national, and resident of Bondi went missing in 1985, and was known to frequent the park. His body was never found. • • Kritchikorn Rattanajurathaporn, a Thai national, was killed at the park in 1990 and 3 juveniles convicted over his homicide. • • John Russell, Ross Warren, Gilles Mattaini and Kritchikorn Rattanajurathaporn were all gay men. Marks Park at Tamarama was a gay beat - a place where homosexual men meet for clandestine sexual encounters. All were loved by their family and friends. • • They died not because they had made enemies or were evil. They died because they were gay. • • The victim here, also gay, and the juveniles are known for other gay hate crimes. • • The park was a gay beat. Gay hate crime in Sydney, Australia, was rampant at the time. • • While cold case homicides appear to be getting interest in cop shows, the sad reality of these is these were closed case deaths which had investigations shut down way too early after they were reported. • • Sadly there is still one more closed case death, which the NSW Coroners Court dispensed with as being not suspicious. A casual observer looking back would easily conclude it like murder when you look back with 20/20 visions. A gay man, with assault injuries, found drowned in a bay in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The bay was wrapped around by a park, and the park was a gay beat. • This occurred in the same era as the previously mentioned deaths, and there was at least one murder at this other park. The victim here was a gay man who was stabbed to death. • • The NSW Coroners Courts were too quick to close these deaths down in the first place. • • A real and ongoing injustice is Homosexual Advance Defence ( or H.A.D) is still available to the charge of murder -it comes under the broad heading of provocation. This is despire a recommendation to the NSW Government that it be blocked. • • A copy of the working party report, here: • http://tinyurl.com/yblmdqd • • A fews articles: • • Illawarra Mercury • http://tinyurl.com/yav432o • • The Sun Herald • http://tinyurl.com/yec2jvs • • The book Bondi Badlands by Greg Callaghan, on the murders here: • http://tinyurl.com/ybo5uv5 • • Watch my other clips (and read the text) for other injustices in New South Wales, Australia. • • Warning - homophobic comments will be deleted and user's banned from posting on the clip.
