Chamaco Ramirez was a Puerto Rican salsa singer (sonero) and composer who also recorded with Tommy Olivencia y Su Orquesta as well as the Alegre All Stars and Kako and his Orchestra. His salsa album Alive and Kicking was his first and only solo album, released in 1979 on Inca Records (a subsidiary of Fania). He was known as one of the top soneros (improviser) in salsa, and was admired and influenced by many of the top salsa artists who came after him. His untimely murder in New York at the age of 41 was tragic and a great talent was lost too early. Standout tracks from Alive and Kicking include “Así Son Bongó,” “San Agustín” and “Adivínalo.” • #chamacoramirez #aliveandkicking • *Sígue/Follow Fania Records* • Facebook: https://found.ee/faniarecordsFB • Instagram: https://found.ee/faniarecordsIG • YouTube: https://found.ee/fania-subscribe-yt-lat • Twitter: https://found.ee/faniarecordsTwitter • TikTok: https://found.ee/faniarecordsTikTok • Newsletter: https://found.ee/fania-subscribe-news... • • *About Fania Records* • Fania’s master recording catalog is the definitive home for genres such as Latin big band, Afro-Cuban jazz, boogaloo, salsa and Latin R B and includes artistic giants such as Celia Cruz, Willie Colón, Héctor Lavoe and Rubén Blades.
