With spring approaching, some of you may be preparing for your first RV trip. Obviously, with any new endeavor, there will always be questions from first-timers. • Is RV power 110 volts or 220 volts? What kind of RV has which voltage? • If you are asking yourself these questions, then stick around to find out. • • Hello and welcome back to AC Connectors. In this video, we will go over the different voltages associated with different RVs. • There are typically 2 different types of RVs: 30 amp and 50 amp. And sometimes you might see some very small 15 amp campers, too. 30 Amp campers will most often use a TT-30 connection to stay powered, while 50 amp RVs will most often use a 14-50. Then the little campers will just use regular household plugs. • Obviously, the household plug will just simply run at 110 volts. The TT-30 plug will also run at 110 volts. It is comprised of one hot, one neutral, and one ground wire. The single hot wire makes it only 110 volts. • The 14-50 plug, however, is 220 volts. It is comprised of two hots, one neutral, and one ground. The two hots on this plug make it operate at 220 volts. • 50 amp RVs will use 220 volts for a couple of reasons. Some of their appliances like air conditioning or ovens will most likely run at 220 volts. The 14-50 plug uses two hot wires to run those appliances and regular 110-volt appliances. 50 amp RVs will also use 220 volts because there are usually more appliances on board. When you have more appliances, you are going to have one hot run some of the appliances, while the other hot runs the other appliances. • If you have any additional questions about different RV connections or other connections out there, please leave us a comment down below.
