The couple participated in the Bicentennial Wagon Train on Independence Day in 1976 and invited some of the friends they had made to join them for their annual Watermelon Festival and inaugural wagon train. Thus began this wonderful tradition. Edith, at age 101, attended this year's event. • Joe gets int he wagon with Mark and we watch as they drive through the woods, fields and towns from Osgood, Indiana to the Ripley County Fairgrounds. We watch all manner of wagon, mules, draft horses and many outriders as they forge Otter Creek, slow moving but full of deep holes and fallen trees, on day two. Footage of the community resting and sharing meals help us understand the attraction to this wonderful family event. • We get a close up look at Willy Lunsford as he prepares a huge amount of fried chicken for the participants.
