Drying Slabwood in Temporary Dehumidification Kiln – Life in the Log Yard • Drying slabwood in the workshop in a temporary dehumidification kiln. I found myself needing to dry a couple of ash slabs we had cut for a brewery located in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was a fairly simple design. The top chamber held the heat source and the fan. I used an attic fan rated to handle the heat and two heat lamps as the heating source. The fan would push the heated air to one end and down through the slabs. Two small baffles channeled the restricted air to the home style dehumidifier. The heat lamps were on a thermostat set at 95 degrees. As it turned out the dehumidifier provided enough heat to keep the high temp. The slabs dried out perfectly and make for a beautiful brewery bar top.
