They transform energy from light with chlorophyll, but are invisible to the naked eye. Unlike the plants we normally perceive, the Euglens move, even very lively, through a floating flagellum. They have a stigma, a red spot that makes them sensitive to the intensity and direction of light. They can pass from the palmelloid stage, circular and perfectly motionless, to the mobile one, depending on the environmental conditions. Many species in prolonged absence of light can phagocytate and predate other organisms from autotrophic-vegetal to heterotrophic-animal condition. • The Euglene look very hippy: if you can live with light why toil to go hunting? But when it touches... • Euglens are composed of one cell. • Our status as medium-sized mammals makes us consider important only what we easily perceive. A differenza dei vegetali che normalmente percepiamo, le Euglene si spostano, anche molto vivacemente, tramite un flagello natante. Possiedono uno stigma, una macchia rossa che le rende sensibili alla intensità e direzione della luce. Possono passare dallo stadio palmelloide, circolare e perfettamente immobile, a quello mobile, a seconda delle condizioni ambientali.
