Known for his quintessentially American style, Harry Thacker Burleigh (1866-1949) was one of the earliest successful Black classical composers. He is credited with introducing and opening up Black music to classically trained musicians through his classically-arranged spirituals and was known to have had a significant impact upon Antonín Dvořák in particular. His Southland Sketches for violin and piano demonstrate his knack for melodic charm and folksy, yet technically impressive writing. • 00:00 - Introduction • 00:12 - I • 02:33 - II • 05:01 - III • 08:02 - IV • SHEET MUSIC HERE: https://ko-fi.com/s/ee66c2a74a • Credits: • Helena Logah (violin) • Mackenzie Paget (piano) • Tom Crathorne (sound editing) • With special thanks to the Harry T.
