Cytospin slide technique is required when you have a clear and watery liquid that you wish to stain and assess under the microscope. Examples of fluids you would perform a cytospin on include CSF, ascitic fluid, pleural fluid, bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) etc. • Viscous fluids do not require a cytospin (simply apply directly to the slide) and include synovial fluid, sputum, blood etc. • • Procedure: • 1) Prepare slide for cytospin by adding 100ul-200ul of liquid to the holding chamber • a. Note: Add 100ul if the specimen is slightly turbid and add 200ul if the specimen is crystal clear. • 2) Spin down your sample in the cytospin centrifuge (e.g. 1,500 RPM for 8 minutes for CSF) – don’t forget to balance your slide. • 3) Let the slide dry, fix the slide via heat or methanol, and stain as per usual. • • -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • Thank you for watching and supporting my channel – I hope you find the video informative and useful! • I can be contacted at: • Mailbox address: • PO Box HM 1010 • Hamilton, HMDX • Bermuda • Email: [email protected] • Chess: https://www.chess.com/member/djsmith00 • Instagram:   / djsmith00   • TikTok:   / themicromanyoutube   • Reddit:   / djsmith00   • Video created via LightWorks • If you really enjoy my content you're welcome to support me and my channel via PayPal or Cryptocurrency: • PayPal: paypal.me/dylanjonsmith • ETH address: 0x667182d9fab7919c1cac55ba6222a4da023b9e28 • BTC address: 15gnvG9qyW5px83y7GM6ytn4UyrQq5ZP4z • Thank you for your support, • Dylan
