A major shoreline protection project at Illinois State Park beach involved the construction of 24 breakwaters using 800,000 tons of sand and 300,000 tons of stone. The eco-friendly design features vegetated concrete eco blocks, driftwood, limestone ledges, and 10 Tern nests to enhance wildlife habitats.
