Their name means chooser of the slain, and they were said to travel to the battlefields to select the finest warriors who had died bravely. • They were often depicted as glamorous and powerful women with wings and wielding spears, shields, and helmets. They were beautiful and deadly, inspiring both admiration and fear. They were thought to be the handmaidens of Odin, the chief of the Norse gods, and accompanied him by his side as he rode on Sleipnir through the skies. • It was believed that the Valkyries would bring the chosen warriors to Valhalla, Odin's glorious hall of the slain. Here, the warriors would prepare for the final battle of Ragnarok, the end of the world, where they would fight alongside the gods. • The Valkyries also had the ability to bestow special powers and strength on the warriors they deemed worthy. These powers would help the warriors to survive and excel on the battlefield. • They represented a connection between the living world and the afterlife. They were a reminder that death in battle was not only honorable but also promised an eternal existence in Valhalla, where the warriors could continue to fight and feast. • Today, the Valkyries continue to captivate people of all ages and backgrounds, serving as symbols of strength, courage, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
