In the hot dry climate of Israel, wells are about life because they provide a life-giving supply of water. However, digging one is a costly, emotional act of faith as its hard labour is propelled by the belief that down in that hole, water awaits. Genesis 26:12–33 tells a contentious story of wells during a time of famine, when God commands Isaac to remain in the land of his father, Abraham, and dig for water. The land is blessed because of a promise that God made to Abraham and Isaac is, therefore, blessed in his gritty task. • Similarly, throughout the Bible, water is used as a picture of the Word of God. But the water of the Word by itself will not bring spiritual life. It must be heard, acted upon by faith, and hidden in our hearts. That’s what “digging spiritual wells” is all about and the world, the flesh and the devil will do to us what the Philistines did to Isaac. They’ll do everything possible to clog or block or plug our wells and create barriers and distractions to keep us from digging and drinking the spiritual water of the Word. • So what do we do? We move on - and we keep on digging! #ebckchonline #ebckch #ebckuching • Tithes Offerings: • Emmanuel Baptist Church • Hong Leong Bank • 017-00-0100-69 • New to church?
