Light microscope. First 30 seconds at 10x, and the rest at 40x (enhanced by camera zoom). Soil sample. • At 1:31 you can observe the worm defecating. • From 0:47 you can see the peristaltic movements of the musculature. • The Aeolosomatidae is a family of very small, aquatic annelid worms (worms that are formed from ring-like pieces/segments), between 0.3 and 10 mm in length and 0.04-0.06 mm in diameter. The body is often brightly coloured due the presence of coloured epidermal glands. Each gland cell, the function of which is unknown, consists of a vacuole, filled with red, green, blue-green, yellow, or sometimes colourless liquid. • Around 30 species have been described in three genera (Aeolosoma, Rheomorpha and Histricosoma). The Aeolosomatidae had been considered to be members of the Clitellata but are currently placed as provisional Polychaeta incertae sedis or enigmatic taxa which is used to label taxonomic groups where broader relationships are unknown or undefined. • These worms are known as suction-feeding worms because they feed by placing their prostomium (first body segment) over the substrate creating a vacuum and consuming algae attached to the sediment particles They are also known as “bottom dwellers”, inhabiting spaces around aquatic plants and the detritus-rich sands and sediments of freshwater habitats, but can also be found in salt-water environments. • Aeolosomatidae are hermaphrodites, where reproduction is asexual by paratomy. This is a process of literal fragmentation of the worm as the posterior segments break away, and from these piecesm new individuals form. It happens when the worm reaches a determined number of metameres (depending on the species). Sexually reproduction happens only sporadically. Some species can form desiccation-resistant cysts that allow them to survive adverse conditions. Aeolosomatidae are useful as biological indicators of organic pollution in freshwater systems. • Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Annelida, Class: Polychaeta, Order: incertae sedis, Family: Aeolosomatidae • Sounds: • Adventure is calling by Vens Adams • Music from Uppbeat (free for Creators!): • https://uppbeat.io/t/vens-adams/adven... • License code: LUSTKZLL6D5CM3IG • logo sound can be found on:    • Видеоклип   • 13 Dark Energy Logo ( Attribution not required ) • available at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rZC3...
