According to data from the FBI, the United States experienced 50 Active Shooter incidents in 2016 (20) and 2017 (30). The result was 221 people killed and 722 people wounded totaling 943 casualties. Similarly, there were 40 Active Shooter incidents in the years 2014 and 2015 resulting in 92 killed and 139 wounded totaling 231 casualties. Schools are a prime target for these violent incidents due to a large number of people in a small area combined with typically weak security.
