Their life is hid with Christ in God, and until the last trump shall sound those who die will sleep in Him. {DA 527.3} • Some people think that when a person dies, some portion of them lives on. It is believed by many that if the person has been good, they will go immediately to heaven. But this is not what the Bible teaches. • The Bible teaches that when a person dies, every element of their being is discontinued. They stop breathing. Their heart stops. Their thoughts stop. They cease to praise the LORD. They cannot remember anything. They cannot dream. They cannot move around. They cannot come back as a ghost and visit you in your home. They cannot do anything. • Ecclesiastes 9:5 • “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything.” • Psalm 140:10 • “They rise not up again.” • Job 7:10 • “He shall return no more to his house.” • Job 21:32 • “He shall be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.” • Psalm 49:17 • “For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.” • Psalm 146:4 • “His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.” • Ecclesiastes 9:6 • “Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in anything that is done under the sun.” • Ecclesiastes 9:10 • “There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” • Job 14:10, 21 • “Man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost… his sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not.” • • Psalm 88:10 • “Shall the dead arise and praise Thee?” • Psalm 115:17 • “The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.” • Psalm 31:17 • “Let them be silent in the grave.” • Isaiah 38:18-19 • “The grave cannot praise Thee, death cannot celebrate Thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for Thy truth.” • Psalm 6:5 • “For in death there is no remembrance of Thee: in the grave who shall give Thee thanks?” • Psalm 30:9 • “Shall the dust praise Thee? Shall it declare Thy truth?” • No. • Job 17:16 • “Our rest together is in the dust.” • • Is it possible to return to your house as a ghost, after you have died? • Job 7:9-10; 14:12 • “As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more… Man lieth down, and riseth not. Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.” • “He shall return no more to his house.” Ghosts, ghouls, spooks, spectres, poltergeists, phantoms, apparitions and spirits are not your beloved dead friends and relatives. They are evil angels, fallen spirits, demonic entities! Cast them out of your life in the name of Jesus Christ. Repent, be baptised and be saved. • • He shall remain in the tomb. He shall not return to his house. • Job 16:22 • Job said, When I die, “then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.” • Psalm 39:13 • “Before I go hence, and be no more.” • The grave is described as “a land of darkness, as darkness itself; and of the shadow of death, without any order, and where the light is as darkness.” Job 10:22.
