Wartenberg sign- The sign, as described by Wartenberg, “consists of a position of the abduction ASSUMED by the little finger”. As Wartenberg noted, adduction of the little finger is performed by interosseous muscles, and abduction is performed by hypothenar muscles, both innervated by the ulnar nerve. However, abduction is also performed by the extensor digiti minimi and the extensor digitorum communis to the little finger, both innervated by the radial nerve. If the ulnar nerve is injured, intact radial nerve function can result in unopposed abduction of the little finger. #health #medical #mbbs #neurology
