He was a founding member, along with Tor Bjurstrøm (1888-1938) and Leander Engström (1886-1927), of the Group of artists known as the young ('De Unga'), circle of painters who spread the influence of Matisse and CezanneFrench teachers in Sweden. • He studied art at the school Konstnarforbund of Stockholm between 1905 and 1908. Influenced by the atmosphere of creative freedom and admiration for French painting who lived in Sweden in the first quarter of the 20th century, due largely to the work of the Federation of artists, Grunewald moved to Paris. There he studied in the Studio of his admired Matisse between 1908 and 1911. The influence of the French Fauvist master was instrumental in the formation of vivid color palette that will distinguish the work of Swedish artist; This influence was not limited only to the years of his teaching, but it lasted until the end of the Decade of the 1920s. • Together with Matisse, the figure of Paul Cézanne is the other pillar on which rests the vigorous work of Grunewald. If Matisse conferred a colors his work, Cezanne contributed geometrical rigour in drawing, the decomposition of natural forms to simple accused geometric forms. The exhibition held in Stockholm on 3 March 1909 and that led by youth title, meant part of the Constitution's circle of artists with common aesthetic interests, Sweden to enter the modern current. August Brunius critic that I coined the term was the men of 1909 to refer to the Group of Swedish artists who influenced by Matisse and Cezanne, they were a novelty in the plastic panorama of the country. The Group had as a binder the influence of both French masters but had a wide geographical dispersion. In Stockholm were Leander Engström (1886-1927) and Sigrid Hjertën (1885-1948), the latter had contracted marriage with Grunewald in 1911. Next to the known as the phalanx of Stockholm also participated artists like Tor Bjurstrøm (1888-1966), Birger Simonsson (1882-1938), Gösta Sandels (1887-1919), known as the phalanx of Gothenburg, characterized by its more lyrical style. In 1912 was disbanded the group, then forming a new core of artists known as the eight (of' atta'). • Isaac Grünewald contribution to the young exposure consisted of 8 works: two lifes, two portraits that reflect the influence of Matisse, two marine and two compositions executed on wall tables and constituted his first experience as a scenic Designer. In this creative aspect, Grunewald developed, among others, the decoration for the premiere of the Samson and Delilah work in Stockholm Kungliga Theatre in 1921. His work received recognition in several international contests of art, like the Prix of the Paris Salon, received on 29 October 1926 for his make-up work Bronja. Also it taught, between 1932 and 1942 at the Academy of fine arts in Stockholm and from 1942 until his death in a plane crash in 1946, in his own workshop. Some of his most famous works are: Portrait of Ivan in an armchair (1915, Stockholm's modern art museum) and bullfighting (1917, Norrköping Art Museum). • --- • MUSIC: Kevin MacLeod - Ambiment - The Ambient • Ambiment - The Ambient by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) • Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-... • Artist: http://incompetech.com/ • SUBSCRIBE: www.youtube.com/c/LearnFromMasters?su... • Facebook: / learnfrommasters • Instagram: / learnfrommasters • Contact: [email protected] • LIST OF ARTISTS already posted on LearnFromMasters: • https://goo.gl/hri4HE • • --- • Thank you so much for your support! • #LearnFromMasters #SwedishPainter #ExpressionistMovement #OnlineArtGallery #CollectionOfPaintings #ArtHistory #IsaacGrunewald
