Within the Celtic Wheel of the Year, Lughnasadh is the time of the first harvest - the harvest of grain and first fruits. As with all of the Celtic Fire Festivals on the Wheel, a bonfire is lit to acknowledge the power of the sun in ripening the grain and swelling the fruits. • Unfortunately, there are some who think it would be a good idea to block the life giving rays of the sun.
