YouTube established this new process in October 2012 after facing increasing criticism for allowing copyright claimants to unilaterally reinstate copyright claims effectively claim videos they had no rights in. The appeals process adds yet another hoop to jump through to get illegitimate copyright claims against your videos removed, but it is a step in the right direction.
