How to convert Windows Server 2019 Standard Evaluation to FULL edition • IMPORTANT: PLEASE FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS CAREFULLY! • ALSO, IN THIS VIDEO, I AM USING A PUBLIC (AKA DEFAULT; GENERIC) INSTALLATION KEY THAT EVERYONE CAN USE! • Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 is available as a 180-day trial for testing purposes and when the evaluation period expires, the machine stops working properly. • There is a way to extend your Windows Server Evaluation for an additional 180 days using the command: slmgr /rearm • You can extend your Windows Server trial period up to 5 times. Thus, the maximum lifespan of Windows Server free trial can be extended to 3 years = 180 days * 6. However, under the terms of using Evaluation versions of Microsoft, you shouldn’t use the trial version for commercial purposes or productive tasks. • Since the trial is an Evaluation edition, the installed version cannot be licensed as a full edition, but instead, it needs to be converted first. • ➤ Link to download Windows Server 2019 Evaluation edition for 180 days: • ✓ https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalc... • If you try to activate Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 Eval copy by specifying the KMS key or the Retail/MAK activation key for the RTM version, you will get an error message saying “This edition cannot be upgraded”. To fix this issue, you'll need to use DISM commands to specify the key. • First of all, find out the information about your current edition of Windows Server 2019 using this DISM command: DISM /Online /Get-CurrentEdition • To see the list of Windows Server editions to which you can upgrade your current Eval edition, use the following command: DISM /Online /Get-TargetEditions • Editions that can be upgraded to: • Target Edition : ServerStandard • Target Edition : ServerDatacenter • As you can see, in my case, I have a Standard Eval edition. That can be upgraded either to Standard Retail or Datacenter Retail, depending on your needs. • To convert the version, type the command: DISM /online /Set-Edition: edition ID /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula • To complete the operation, type Y to restart the computer. • When the server has rebooted, check the installed version with the command: DISM /Online /Get-CurrentEdition • The Server edition is now a licensed version. Also, the winver command displays the correct licensed version. • THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE UPGRADE/CONVERSION: • ✓ You cannot upgrade a server with an Active Directory Domain Service domain controller role; • ✓ If NIC Teaming is configured on the server, it must be disabled before upgrading; • ✓ Windows Server Eval Datacenter cannot be upgraded to Windows Server Standard Full • You'll find all commands in the pinned comment below! • As you can see, the current ServerStandardEval edition has been upgraded to Windows Server 2019 Datacenter edition. • This is the KMS key for Windows Server 2019 Datacenter Edition. So to activate your Windows Server with KMS key, you will need a local KMS activation server on your network. Otherwise, you won’t be able to activate your Windows Server. • ➤ MORE INFORMATION RESOURCES: • ✓ https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wind... • ✓ https://nolabnoparty.com/en/windows-2... • ✓ http://woshub.com/how-to-upgrade-wind... • #WindowsServer2022 #Server2022 #WindowsServer2019 #WindowsServer2016 #Server2019 #Server2016
