Max Holloway stepped in on 6 days notice to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the vacant lightweight championship. However, Max Holloway was pulled from the fight due to health concerns from his weight cut. Shortly thereafter Max had another health scare ahead of his fight with Brian Ortega and was pulled from the fight once again due to concussion-like symptoms from his weight cut. • ––––– #MaxHolloway @maxholloway This is an Excerpt from my documentary Why Max Holloway is the Baddest Man Alive where Lionel Rivera breaks down the entire career and legacy of Hawaiian Featherweight Champion and BMF Champion Jermome-Max Blessed Holloway. Max Holloway is a legend of mixed martial arts and veteran UFC competitor who began his fighting career on the regional, amateur scene in Hawaii, competing over 80 times in sanctioned and sometimes unsanctioned MMA fights to gather enough experience and become the X-1 MMA lightweight champion. Max's fighting spirit developed form his rough upbringing and troubled home where his mother would disappear for days at a time and Holloway's father was completely absent. Max took on fighting as a way to build himself into a respectable young man, and in doing so earned his first UFC contract at 20 years old, but unfortunately suffered his first MMA loss to Dustin Poirier. Nevertheless, Max Holloway would rebound with wins over Pat Schilling, Justin Lawrence, and Leonard Garcia before losing to Dennis Bermudez and Conor McGregor. This was a rough UFC beginning for Max Holloway, but he then rebounded to begin one of the greatest UFC win streaks ever, defeating Will Chope, Submitting Andre Fili, finishing Clay Collard, Finishing Akira Corassani, defeating Cole Miller, submitting Cub Swanson, defeating Charles Oliveira, defeating Jeremy Stephens, Slugging it out with Ricardo Lamas, and finally finishing Anthony Pettis to become interim UFC featherweight champion. Max then unified his title by finishing Jose Aldo in Rio at UFC 212 and finished him once again in the rematch at UFC 218 to leave no doubt that Max Holloway was the best in the world. Max then tried his hand at fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov, but the fight was canceled due to a rapid weight cut, so instead Max returned to featherweight to completely school Brian Ortega and defend his featherweight title. Max then rematched Dustin Poirier but lost a clear decision at 155 Ibs. Max was able to rebound with a title defense to Frankie Edgar, but then immediately lost his title to Volkanovski, lost a controversial split decision to Volkanovski in the rematch, and then after beating up Calvin Kattar and Yair Rodriguez, Max had a trilogy with Volkanovski, but once again lost to the champion. However, when Max defeated Arnold Allen and the Korean Zombie, he carved a new path to the BMF title against Justin Gaethje, completely dominating the former interim champion until the final second where max scored the greatest knockout in UFC history to become the BMF champion.
