Trying to catch crab in southern California - specifically, Balboa Pier. Using simple hoop net-style rig, baited with shrimp, rotten fish, or chicken. • Lessons learned: Have something to tie the bait down into the hoop net. • Have a little weight in the net to get it down quicker and not drift • Raw shrimp doesn't seem to work • Very small crab midway along the Balboa Pier, not worth while.
