The USS Franklin (CV-13) was an Essex-class aircraft carrier commissioned in January 1944. She served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, earning four battle stars. Notably, she survived a devastating attack in March 1945, becoming the most heavily damaged U.S. aircraft carrier to survive the war.
