The American composer and teacher, Wallingford Riegger (1885-1961) was a master craftsman who wrote in disparate styles with an equal degree of proficiency. • • His Thrid Symphony won the 1948 New York Music Critic's Circle Award for the best new American orchestral work for that season. The work also won the Naumburg award which led to its commercial recording in the early 1950s with the Eastman-Rochester Symphony Orchestra conducted by Howard Hanson. • • Here is a more recent broadcast recording from the late 1970s, in stereo, with Dennis Russell Davies conducting the American Composers Orchestra. • • - video upload powered by https://www.TunesToTube.com
