The rise of the Turkic dynasties in Iran beginning in the 10th century was a major turning point in Iranian history which saw Iran become largely dominated by a Turkic elite. The Turkic rulers of Iran promoted Persian culture and allowed for the development of a Persianate world in regions which would have otherwise not had much of a presence of Persian culture. In this video, I discuss the three primary and most influential Turkic dynasties to rule Iran, the Ghaznavids, the Seljuks, and the Khwarezmians.
