This video is about a Melonseed Skiff sailing adventure in the spring of 2020. The skiffs Grenville and Beyefendi launched from the Angell Park boat ramp in Beaconsfield, QC on May 14th for our first sail of the season on a beautiful spring morning. The air temperature may have been pleasant but the water temperature required us to use our drysuits for safety’s sake. • We began our late morning adventure with a short sail in light airs upstream heading west along the south shore of the island of Montreal. Not long after, we set a southerly course towards a large bay on the northeast side of Dowker Island. This island was visited in 2019 by several Melonseeds (and one C C 38) during the Canadian Melonseed summer regatta (CMC 2019). Having reached the island, we once again headed west, drifting along the shore of the bay. • Continuing to sail westward, we rounded the north side of Dowker where we found the small island named Caron. This islet tends to merge with Dowker in the summer when water levels are lower and the gap fills with reeds. With a true spirit of adventure and some local knowledge provided by a fisherman who happened to be anchored in the lee of this tiny island, we set off and successfully managed to complete our epic circumnavigation! • Satisfied with our exploration of this fine small boat sailing ground, we headed downstream on a NE’ly course and arrived back at the launch ramp in the early afternoon. • • Learn more about the excellent, rowing and sailing Melonseed Skiff from Roger Crawford at ... • http://www.melonseed.com/home.html • • GoPro Hero 4 Black and Canon D30 • Sennheiser MKE2 Elements Microphone
