The Saint Louis Zoo's 3-month-old red-legged seriema chicks try their beaks at a game of wiffle ball. Seriemas are predator birds. The way they slam the ball is an instinctive action and similar to how they would kill prey in the wild. The three chicks named Earl, Claire and Tina were hand-raised by zookeepers behind the scenes. At about 2 months old, they started taking daily exercise walks with their keepers through the Bird House before it opened to visitors. • The seriemas can be seen at the Bird House. • http://www.stlzoo.org
