When I set out to take complete control over the look of my film photographs back in 2019, I challenged myself to spend less on home scanning that I would have on a new pro-level DSLR. • I bought an Epson v550 Photo flatbed scanner for less than $300 CAD, tried the bundled Epson Scan software, and then Silverfast Ai 8. • I learned a lot about color profiles, color spaces, and film characteristics, but in the end, two problems made me give up flatbed scanning my negatives: time invested, and the sharpness of the scans. • Eventually, I started digitizing my negatives using a DSLR setup as I'd seen and heard around the net that it was the way to go. • Happily, I found myself a Nikon D3500 DSLR, used my vintage Nikkor 55mm f/3.5 and found I attained results comparable to the far more expensive FujiFilm X-T4 mirrorless DSLR. I'm quite satisfied with the result, and am thrilled to be able to share my journey with you here. • • Read More at https://www.danchromatic.com/blog • Dan • +++ • • Music: Golden Age by tripcook via https://cchound.com/ • +++ • • This video is NOT sponsored in any way. • Your use of the links below help support this channel - all products are meaningfully mentioned in the video. • FujiFilm X-T4 DSLR on Amazon: • https://amzn.to/2L05ZXa • Nikon D3500 DSLR on Amazon: • https://amzn.to/3b744KZ • Sony Alpha a6300 Mirrorless DSLR on Amazon: • https://amzn.to/2MxKMV0 • Epson v600 Photo Scanner on Amazon: • https://amzn.to/38bUPY4
