Driving along Germany's highest toll road is an unforgettable experience. The road leads to an altitude of 1,600 meters and offers a breathtaking view of the Berchtesgadener and Salzburger Land on the crest route, which runs on a high plateau partly on Austrian territory. • The Roßfeldstraße offers a glimpse of the Berchtesgaden Alpine landscape and the Salzach Valley, more than 1,000 meters below, with the Mozart city of Salzburg . It can be easily reached by car or bus and is a popular route for motorcycle excursions. The panoramic road formerly known as Roßfeld-Höhenringstraße has two driveways. • The southern driveway leads from the Klaushöhe am Obersalzberg via the southern toll booth to Ofnerboden. This is the starting point of the hike to the Kehlsteinhaus . Past the distillery of the Grassl gentian distillery below the Eckersattel and the Untere Ahornalm, the road leads uphill to the Obere Ahornalm below the Ahornbüchsenkopf (1604 m), the highest elevation of the Roßfeld. The first very sharp right turn between Unterer and Oberer Ahornalm is named after a German rally driver Regercurve. Immediately after that, the Roßfeldhöhenringstraße has its steepest incline. • The north ascent begins in Berchtesgaden-Oberau and leads through the districts of Gmerk, Dora, and Heißbäck past Madlerlehen and Pechhäusl to the north toll station. The road leads up to the car park at the Hennenköpfl via the Roßfeldalm area. In winter, this part of the Roßfeld is used as a ski area, thanks to the altitude it is the most snow-sure natural snow ski area in Bavaria. • The apex of the Roßfeld Panorama Road connects the south and north access roads on a high plateau with almost no gradients. It runs east of the Hennenkamm, which marks the state border. The Roßfeldstraße runs for about 1.5 km on Austrian territory. • Parking spaces are available on the summit route. There the visitor can expect a panoramic view of the mighty mountain massif of the Hohen Göll , the Kehlstein, the Tennen and Dachstein mountains, the Untersberg as well as the Berchtesgadener and Salzburger Land. The panoramic road is an ideal starting point for mountain hikes, including to the Purtschellerhaus (1,692 m) or to the Kehlsteinhaus (1,834 m) . • In winter, the Roßfeld is probably the snowiest family ski area in the Berchtesgadener Land (natural snow). Three drag lifts and two practice lifts open up well-groomed alpine slopes and a separate snowboard slope. The ski run to Oberau is six kilometers long, and an RVO shuttle bus runs between Oberau and Roßfeld. The ski tour route on the Roßfeld is a popular tour for beginners. • The construction history of the road is also interesting: the construction of the road was started in 1938 by the construction management of the German Alpine Road - it was to form the final loop of the German Alpine Road. The street was also supposed to give visitors from a reasonable distance an insight into the high-security area of the Obersalzberg - since 1933 the second seat of government next to Berlin - which was closed to the public from 1937. Only after the end of the war was the road completed by the Traunstein road construction authority. • • • • • • • Happiness (pt.
