As time passes and system needs change it becomes possible that changing the control programming is the next step in keeping a system running correctly. • Typically program changes are rare in a system but as technology changes and older devices are replaced with newer technology, there reaches a point where the system cannot run without changes. • Recently, we experienced the need to change out some pneumatically controlled steam valves. They had reached the end of their service life and were leaking through, causing high water temperature spikes. • The challenge with this system is that it was originally controlled with a single output on the DX 9100 using a pneumatic transducer. (EP-2101) The replacement valves have electronic actuators with each of them requiring a 0-10vdc control signal. • The three steam valves each had a pilot positioner that was calibrated to open when a specific air pressure was reached. The analog output from the DX 9100 is 0-10vdc and as the output increased, the pneumatic transducer increased air pressure to the three pilot positioners. • Fortunately in this system we have a few spare analog outputs that can be used to control the new valves and we only need to make a program change for the new valves to work. • Here are some of the things I keep in my tool bag. • Backpack: http://amzn.to/2tDnYsC • My screwdriver: http://amzn.to/2uPyIDV • Small fuse puller: http://amzn.to/2uPIdDk • Combination fuse puller: http://amzn.to/2vB0dPf • Adjustable wrench: http://amzn.to/2us3akS • USB to Serial converter: http://amzn.to/2vAKHTD • Network cable: http://amzn.to/2vBpJE0 • Network switch: http://amzn.to/2eHsIa7 • Hex Key set: http://amzn.to/2eHvA6C • Fluke meter: http://amzn.to/2tDaZHj • Fluke temperature meter: http://amzn.to/2tDxnQO • Dell 32 bit laptop: http://amzn.to/2us2Z9n • Serial cable: http://amzn.to/2eHvyf8
