Changing Season

There is a tree across the street that watch throughout the year. Its character changes a lot as the seasons and weather change. I have often wanted to shoot a time-lapse of the changing moods I see. I finally took the time to make a one month time-lapse as autumn approached. I timed it just right, since in the one month time, the tree went from covered with green leaves to a nearly a bare skeleton. It surprised me that the video also captured quick glimpses of the neighborhood activity with the frame interval of between 2 and 6 seconds. I set the frame interval shorter as the leaves began to fall more rapidly. The camera used was an old Nikon D70. I attached it to a Gateway Netbook running Kubuntu Linux. The software was a bash script that did the interval timing, tripping the camera with gphoto2 and storing the images on the computer. Using the computer connected to the camera with a USB cable allowed me to make changes in the script without disturbing the camera. The script paused during the dark times, but the changes in light during the day and during weather changes were interesting. • Video editing was done with Vegas Movie Studio. • Music: Easy Lemon by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) • Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-... • Artist: http://incompetech.com/
