Bloodstock 2024 our first Bloodstock. • From the fans to the bands and crew, awesome. • We saw some legendary shows from Malevolence and Amon Amath and Satyricon closed the festival with free lessons in atmospheric black metal. • Superb. • With 19 bands including Emperor, MachineHead and 3 Inches of Blood being announced for next year, we will return. • Wednesday - Friday • We arrived in the middle of the afternoon to a campsite steadily filling up. • Wednesday night was spent setting up, taking in the sights and watching the Pick of Destiny. • Thursday we sat around the tent until 5 when the arena opened. • We saw Acid Age, Tailgunner and Evergrey play some great sets. • Friday, the festival began. • First up, some stoner rock with Desert Storm, thrash death by all female group, Nervosa, occult tinged, Green Lung brought the mushroom induced psychedelic rock, Grand Magus did their thing, Rotting Christ pummelled us and Clutch were as great as always. • Then Opeth played arguably one the best gigs I’ve seen them play. • The stage show and performance were spot on and blew the roof off. • The performance of the weekend for me. • Saturday - Sunday • Saturday started off early with some punishing black metal courtesy of Deitus. • I hadn’t heard these before but with Dissection a huge influence I shall be checking more of these guys out. Great performance. • Forbidden brought the 80s thrash with Chris Kontoss on drums. • Unleash the Archers were power metal mad, Deicide, beat us with death metal Whitechapel did their thing, Malevolence ripped the place up making it impossible for Architects to follow them. • It was then bed time. • Soen started off Sunday, Beast in Black were ridiculous, Krimh was behind the kit for Septic Flesh from Greece while they beat us with tales of ancient Egypt, The Night Flight Orchestra made us dance, Sadus brought full throttle thrash, Carcass brought gore and grind, G got stuck behind the biggest guy in the crowd again, Xentrix were great (I didn’t get a pic) and Amon Amath played arguably the best show I’ve seen both on production and scale and Satyricon close the festival with mesmerising black metal majesty. • While the Bill Ward of black metal, Frost, gives us a lesson in BM drumming and Anthrax’s Frankue Bello on bass. • To say our first visit to Bloodstock was great would be an understatement. • We shall be back next year 🤘🏻 • #bloodstock #bloodstock2024
