Building a 48 volt battery bank with A123 lifepo4 26650 cells from medical batteries. I build this bank using medical battery packs I purchased from Batteryhookup.com. Purchased with my own funds using David Poz discount code for 10% off. • Link to the batteries. They are out of stock at this time but come back from time to time. • https://batteryhookup.com/products/a1... • Link to more specs on these cells. • https://www.batteryspace.com/a123-lif... • Link to the desoldering pump I use • https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... • This is a 60 amp hour pack I am building to expand my existing 100 amp hour pack to 160 amp hours or about 8.5 kilowatt hours of storage. Not including wire I already had, its about $500 for this 60 amp hour pack and I spent about $800 on the existing 100 amp hour pack so $1300 total for a 160 amp hour 48 volt pack with BMS. • Link to the BMS I used on both of my battery builds. I used the 400 amp version without the LCD. Paired to an old smartphone. $112 for the BMS, handles a max charge rate of 50 amps. • https://www.ebay.com/itm/Smart-Lifepo... • You will need a T10 bit with a narrow shaft at least 2.5 to 3 inches long in order to disassemble the packs. I use 14 gauge wire for the parallel wiring and 10 gauge wiring for the connections on each pack tying them all together, all wires cut to equal lengths. • In my setup at full load each pack in parallel will only see about 7 amps draw at max output of my inverters, while each pack can easily handle up to 50 amps continuous so they have a very light load. Charging with the BMS maxes out at 3 amps per each of the 16 packs max, also a very light load. Between my two banks I can take a max charge rate of 5.4 kilowatts, that will expand to about 8kw next year when I further expand my battery bank. I'll post the second part later this week on completing the build.
