This leitmotif is first heard in act 3 scene 1 of Die Walkure. • This motif represents the hero of the cycle, Siegfried, son of Sieglinde and Siegmund and grandson of Wotan. This motif has a heroic, fanfare character befitting a hero who is supposed to save the world. This motif is first heard as Brunhilde tells Sieglinde, after the death of her lover, that she is with child, that this child will be the hero and that his name shall be Siegfried. • Another notable use of this motif is at the very end of Die Walkure, as Wotan is encircling Brunhilde with flame, he says Wer meines Speeres Spitze furchtet, durchschreite das Feuer nie! ( He who fears the point of my Spear shall not pass through the Flame! ), but he says it to the Siegfried motif, telling the audience that the man who does not fear the spear and so shall pass through the fire is Siegfried. • This motif also appears as part of Siegfried's Horn Call and in the Trauermarsch (Siegfried's Funeral Music). • The motif is a major version of the Curse motif, suggesting that Siegfried is the one to destroy the curse (As it happens, Siegfried fails in this endeavour, and is victim to it instead. • Progenitor leitmotifs: • Genesis or Nature:    • 1 Genesis or Nature : Der Ring Des Ni...   • Curse:    • 32 Curse : Der Ring Des Nibelungen   • Related Leitmotifs: • Siegfried's Horn Call:    • 73 Siegfried's Horn Call : Der Ring D...   • Subsidiary Leitmotifs: • None • Copyright Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for fair use for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.
