Ascent of the Strahlhorn in the Wallis Alps via the Schwarzberg Ridge from Mattmark on 24th August 2024 - and descending via the Adlerpass, which is the normal route up. It's rated a PD (little difficult), but the length, remoteness, altitude and some technical sections make it a challenging climb. The route crosses two major alpine peaks (Fluchthorn and Strahlhorn), took us roughly 9 hours to ascend, and another 6-7 hours to descend via a highly crevassed glacier. • • The conditions and weather were great on the ascent. Since it was rather late in the season, we had to cross some highly crevassed glacier sections on the descent. It was still doable but quite hairy at times, and we lost quite some time wandering around in the crevasse labyrinth - that's why the descent took us nearly as long as the ascent. Starting and finishing this climb at the Mattmark dam requires serious endurance - it's a very long way. An alternative would be to climb up to the Britannia hut and then taking the cable car down at Felskinn station. During the descent, we figured we wouldn't catch the last cable car down, that's why we continued down to Mattmark. • 00:00 Start of the Schwarzberg Ridge • 01:52 Fluchthorn Summit (3795 m) • 03:23 Steep NE flank Strahlhorn • 04:31 Final rocky ridge Strahlhorn • 05:29 Strahlhorn Summit (4190 m) • 05:50 Descent via Adlerpass
