I recently had an interest in setting up bass shakers in my sim rig but all of the pre-boxed solutions seemed rather expensive for something I hadn't been able to test before. • So instead of saving up an arm and a leg in order to dip a toe in instead I decided to build up a DIY kit, for this I purchased: • 2 x Nobsound Mini Sound Card/Amplifiers https://www.amazon.co.uk/Nobsound-Blu... • 4 x Dayton Audio BST-2 Bass Transducers https://www.soundimports.eu/en/dayton... • Some speaker wire https://www.amazon.co.uk/electrosmart... • 8 x Banana Plugs https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fisual-Easy-... • You'll also need a soldering iron, some solder and heat shrink. • I'm not affiliated with any of the companies above, this is just where I sourced the hardware. • Interestingly there is now a 2x100w Nobsound soundcard if you wish to go for more powerful bass shakers. • Getting the hardware ready wasn't too tricky. I opted to extend the very short transucer wires via solder joints and then attach banana plugs to the ends. On getting that done I tested out the sound cards with the bass shakers using a bass enhanced music track on Youtube. • With the hardware side of things ready we can do about locating them on the rig. For my that was zip ties under the seat springs and bolting the front units to the pedal tray. • Next up we need to install SimHub (https://www.simhubdash.com/) and configure it in the ShakeIt Bass Shaker sound card settings, enable the two sound cards and make sure effects that correspond to only their locations are enabled. Effects wise this will take some experimentation on a case-by-case basis due to differing preferences. • Overall the feeling you get from these devices is as close as many of us will get to a motion platform. It doesn't fully complete the experience but when it is disabled you definitely feel like something is missing. • #simRacingHardware • #bassShakers • #simhub • 00:00 - Intro • 00:50 - Hardware Setup • 01:32 - Notes on Compromises • 02:47 - Preparing Bass Shakers • 06:08 - Fitting to the Rig • 07:31 - Installing SimHub • 09:04 - Setting up SimHub • 12:41 - Testing it all out • 15:35 - Conclusion Thoughts
