First Impression of the Basilica Cistern in Istanbul Türkiye 🇹🇷 Turkey

This is a clip from my episode of our first full day exploring the ancient sites of Istanbul. Though not my favorite ancient cistern of the trip. The sheer size of this cistern was incredible. I can understand why this is one of the standard tourist attractions of Istanbul. Watch the full video on my channel. • Our first full day in Istanbul of our 3 week trip. Though we flew in at the beginning we only had 1 night then. We spent the entire day seeing as much of the ancient ruins of Istanbul (Constantinople) that we were able to. Starting off with the Basilica Cistern and a walk around Sultanahmet Square. Then we went to see the incredible Mosaic Museum or Istanbul with some incredible animal mosaics. After that we went to another, lesser known ancient cistern Philoxenos. This one being above ground instead of below like the last. But that didn't mean it was small as I expected. Last thing we could do before our scheduled sunset cruise on the Bosphorus was a quick stroll through the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul. This was nothing like I expected and seemed more like a modern shopping mall than a traditional bazaar. Ending the evening with an incredible cruise to see the many palaces, schools, mosques and mansions lining the Bosphorus. • This trip was a few months before the horrible earthquake that just hit Turkey.
