In October 2019, Petra in the Jordanian desert was our destination. The capital of the former Nabataean kingdom was founded around 300 BC. Access through a narrow gorge called Al Siq leads to tombs and temples carved into pink sandstone cliffs. Probably its most famous building is the 45 m high Khazne al-Firaun, a temple with an ornate Greek-style façade called the Treasury House. However, it served as a burial place.
