Three reasons not to buy the Harley-Davidson X440. First, the styling is a bit of a hit or miss and the area from the side panel to the tail section looks ungainly, especially in the red colour. Also the quality of some of the materials, the welds, the levers and the finish on the exhaust isn’t as good as you'd expect at the price or in the face of its competition, the Triumph Speed 400. Second, if you expect a 440cc engine to automatically mean high top speeds, it’s not the case with this Harley. It’ll manage a 105kph cruise beautifully but anything beyond will start feeling less good. • Third, compared to competition like the Royal Enfield, Harley-Davison, at present, has far fewer dealers and even with the introduction of Hero’s premium dealership arm from where the X440s will also retail, its location might still be far away from where you live.
