Here is a look at the Seiko caliber 5D44A (or just 5D44) kinetic movement http://calibercorner.com/seiko-calibe.... As you can see, it has a rotor the resembles an automatic movement, but don't confuse this with a mechanical self-winding automatic watch. Does that mean it is a quartz movement? It's kind of a combination of both. • The rotor in the 5D44A transfers energy from winding to a capacitor aka secondary battery. It looks like a normal battery cell but it is not - notice the prongs. • The capacitor for the Seiko is number MT920 as shown towards the end of the video. • This movement was found in a Seiko Velatura watch.
