Spotted Towhee’s in California yards are common year-around. The male can be heard from a high perch as he throws back his head with each chorus. A Spotted Towhee Call / Song / Sound / Singing is always a treat to hear. Each spring they nest near-by and bring their young to forage for seed and insects. Towhees spend the majority of their time on the ground and this is the reason for their coloring, which helps them blend with dried leaves and shrubs. The Spotted Towhee / Pipilo Maculatus are from the New World Sparrow family, which includes the California Towhee and Eastern Towhee.
