BJP accuses ArvindKejriwal of illegal encroachment over bungalow allocation protests in Delhi

BJP leader and former Union minister Vijay Goel led a protest outside the new residence of former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal on Friday, alleging illegal encroachment of a government bungalow. The protest took place at 5, Ferozeshah Road near Mandi House, where Kejriwal recently moved after vacating his former residence on 6, Flagstaff Road. • According to Goel and fellow BJP leaders, Kejriwal's move to this new bungalow violates parliamentary rules, as the residence was originally allotted to AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal. Goel pointed out that parliamentary norms do not permit the transfer of a residence allotted to a Member of Parliament (MP) to any other individual, including party leaders or non-elected officials. • Citing well-known urban development rules governing the allocation of government accommodations, Goel said, As per Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha rules, a bungalow allocated to an MP cannot be transferred to someone else. This is illegal encroachment. Kejriwal, who once vowed not to use government cars or bungalows, is now playing 'bungalow-bungalow.' • This protest comes as Kejriwal vacated his residence of nine years at Flagstaff Road and moved into the Lutyens' zone bungalow allotted to Ashok Mittal, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab. Adding to the controversy, AAP’s former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is also reportedly moving into a residence initially allotted to another AAP Rajya Sabha MP, Harbhajan Singh. • The BJP has criticised these moves as a violation of ethical standards and government regulations, accusing the AAP leadership of hypocrisy given their earlier stance on the use of government properties.
