Replacing the rotting wood under the back seating area on my boat. I remove the old marine plywood underlayment on my swim platform seating to restore the seat and reattach the seat vinyl. I use pvc board that is actually cheaper than marine plywood to repair and restore a seating cushion backer board. The vinyl on my seat had become separated from the base because the wood started to rot. • If your boat seat vinyl is in good condition, but the wood underneath is rotting from moisture and water, there is a low cost option that is better than marine plywood and easier to work with. Using PVC fascia board from a home repair store I fabricate a new base for a seating area in my boat that is easier to work with than marine plywood and will never rot or have any of the problems that my original wood seat backing material had. Being originally constructed of marine grade plywood caused the area to be waterlogged and to become heavy because of the saturated wood base under the seating cushion.
