KUTX presents The War on Drugs performing Occasional Rain. • The last track off their fifth and latest studio album I Don't Live Here Anymore , was actually one of the first songs written and demo'd before the band officially started on the album. Says lead singer/songwriter Adam Granduciel, “I wrote it, and then we went into the studio in Brooklyn…We hashed it out. 12 takes. It felt really good. The plan was to kind of re-record it in five months at Electric Lady.” Which they did but the new version felt forced and was tossed aside. • “Towards the end of [recording] the record, I was looking for a last song...I stumbled upon this early demo of ‘Occasional Rain’ and this version just had a certain levity to it. Everyone was playing from a really great place. This is the perfect last song. And I added some guitars, a mellotron, and we sang it- because I had only had about 30% of the vocals originally- and it just came together really beautifully, kind of at the last second of making this [album]. I'm happy it didn't get lost because it was one of the first ones I wrote for the record. I kind of just forgot about it for two years because I thought it had lost something [in the re-recording of the song], but then we found it and we put it on.
