If you create drips or runs on your jobs, don't beat yourself up too much. It happens to the best of us. There are several reasons why a painter's clear will run or drip on the panels. One reason we did not mention in the video is the weather or temperature change. Often, when the is a sudden drop in temperature, the clear takes a lot longer to cure. You have to change the formula a bit by adding more hardener or reducer to the mix. Also, go over every issue our tech outlined, your gun pressure, technique, spray pattern, etc. Drips and runs are not the end of the world but they can be a pain to fix and even remove. Your goal is to not waste money on materials and save time. Keep that in mind when you are painting. • TOOLS: • This method is a bit different because we are using metal glaze to spread over the run/drips and sanding that down. So, you'll need some sort of body filler. You will need sanding paper, 320 up to 200 or 300 grit. You will need a sanding block, water, and soap, as well as a guide coat to make sure you are thorough. You can also use a DA sander to make things faster but the sanders are abrasive and can burn through the clear and paint. • PROCESS: • You will want to get all of your supplies and have them nearby. This is a lengthy process and will take a lot of elbow grease. Having the supplies nearby will make things much faster. Start by mixing the body filler to place over the run or drips. Do not put on too much as we did, keep it thinner. This will save you a lot of time through this process. This method worked best for high drips, so make sure you get the filler between each drip. Let the filler dry in the appropriate time frame specified in the instructions. Grab your favorite sanding block and 320 grit and go to work. Work the body filler down to the clear coat by gradually increasing the grit of the sandpaper. You want to get the drips down as much as possible. By the time this happens, the body filler should probably be down considerably. Keep working it until there is no more body filler. Apply the guide coat on the are to make sure the panel is flat. It will take some time but keep working on it. Apply the guide coat one last time to triple-check the run/drips. Hopefully, you did not burn through the clear or paint and the run/drip is completely gone. • This process takes a lot of time so make sure it's to your benefit. You'll definitely save money by not repainting the panel but you will spend money on the labor or not finishing other work. The method definitely works but we paint so much, that it would be easier for us to just DA sand it and repaint the panel. We hope our video helped! • #paintdrip #clearcoatrun #paintruns #wetsanding #paintbooth #panelpainting #revemoto #paintedautoparts #paintcorrection #buffing • DISCLAIMER: While ReveMoto tries to make the information in this video as accurate as possible, we make no claims, promises, or guarantees about the accuracy, completeness, or applicability of the content.
