Short lecture Dirac notation in quantum mechanics. • Dirac notation is a shorthand notation for expressions which appear frequently in quantum mechanics. In Dirac notation, a wavefunction is represented as a ket vector. The complex conjugate of a function is represented as a bra vector. Together, a bra-ket is the product of a bra and a ket integrated over all space. A matrix element is the integral over all space of an operator actor on a ket multiplied by a bra. This notation allows quick, convenient expressions for overlap integrals, expectation values, and the definition of a Hermitian operator. • Notes Slide: http://i.imgur.com/HEg2D3j.png • -- About TMP Chem -- • All TMP Chem content is free for everyone, everywhere, and created independently by Trent Parker. • Email: [email protected] • -- Video Links -- • Chapter Playlist: • Principles of Quantum Mechanics • Course Playlist: • Quantum Chemistry and Spectroscopy • Course Review: • Quantum Chemistry Chapter Reviews • Other Courses: • PChem Course Intros • Channel Info: • About TMP Chem • -- Social Links -- • Facebook: / tmpchem • Twitter: / tmpchem • LinkedIn: / tmpchem • Imgur: https://tmpchem.imgur.com • GitHub: https://www.github.com/tmpchem • -- Equipment -- • Microphone: Blue Yeti USB Microphone • Drawing Tablet: Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Small • Drawing Program: Autodesk Sketchbook Express • Screen Capture: Corel Visual Studio Pro X8
