#100DaysOfPractice - Day 28 - Piccolo Trumpet! • Sorry about the fast tempo on Abblesen - I literally was having asthma troubles and couldn’t manage the breathing at the usual tempo LOL! Pollen’s been killing me... • Anyway - piccolo can be a bit intimidating for many young trumpeters. • Common pitfalls for new picc players: • 1) Overblowing. Just release the air and meet resistance on its own terms! Expect a warm, resonant round sound...but not a HUGE sound. It’s not a Bb or a C! • 2) Overplaying. That back pressure is no joke...take it easy; limit your time on the horn, and don’t expect it to magically give you a high register! • Practice the same things on Bb, A (or G or C!) piccolo as you do on the big horns: flexibility (see day 21), Clarke Studies (Days 11 12), bending (Day 3), Arban, Getchell, etc...anything in a comfortable range, gradually extending into the high register. • Give it time. Start with rep. that doesn’t “hurt” - Torelli, Purcell Sonata in D, etc. Make your onstage experiences fun and positive, not punishing! 😄
