Despite the overall show having been shorter than most of the ones surrounding it on the European tour calendar, it comes with some really nice moments! The middle section of Keep The Faith ranks amongst their greatest with Jon going absolutely nuts and Richie killin' it on the outro solo! Also the rare appearance of Joey is noteworthy, not only due to the wonderful piano lead-in, but Jon extends the song with ad-libs, only for the band to pick it up again afterwards. During Saturday Night, Jon almost adds material for an entire song during the improv part and really makes this one special! And as the band performs I'll Sleep When I'm Dead, Jon gets so lost in the cover tracks that he almost forgets to finish of the former song :D • A recording that almost had my head explode, but let's go back to the start. Some CDs from the early 2000s have what most of you know when a disc was used (and kept in the car's door etc.) for too long: It starts to skip, clicks appear and the quality diminishes. This one was full of these at the start of the songs and (unfortunately) on at least two other occasions, including Richie's performance. Years ago, that was a knockout, newer algorithms had me go back and attack it once again. Even though it's definitely still audible in the worst parts, I think we can get through it quite well now. The next obstacle was the band's sound mix for their European outdoor shows: with Jon's vocals declining, I feel they put more of a compression on his live mic to push him upfront in the mix (the USA shows in spring sounded more balanced with regards to that). The overall vibe of the album and tour made for a harsher approach anyway. Which makes a tough combination with the third aspect: this show was captured via Minidisc and while any recording is (of course!) always better than none, the known limited frequency band of this paired with what was described before made for a rather harsh and unbalanced sound. I honestly lost count of how many times I started over with a different approach today, really struggling to find the balance between clarity and and unpleasant higher end. At some point, I settled for it since I sometimes want to push more out of some recordings than there is. • Sound remastered! • Setlist: • 01. Intro [0:00] • 02. Bounce [1:38] • 03.
