This dog has been selectively bred over hundreds of years, primarily as a Turkish shepherd, a guardian dog based on their size, strength, temperament and appearance. • They are especially suited to working in pairs or teams to protect livestock from large predators e.g. Foxes, Wolves and Bears etc. Because of this, they have a predictable and reliable temperament of being gentle with livestock and children and aggressive towards predators. It is thought the Kangal is related to early mastiffs, they have been categorized into the molosser family alongside the American Mastiff and Bullmastiff. • Kangals are a unique dog breed with a very long history. While most people have never heard of a Kangal dog, these canines have played a very important role in human history. They’re considered to be one of the oldest dog breeds that still exist today! • They’re massive canines that are devoted to protecting both livestock and humans. • Not a herding dog in the traditional sense, Kangals are more focused on protecting the flock from would-be predators. • Take one look at this breed and it’s obvious that they’re equipped for the job. With their towering size, strong jaws, and vicious attitudes, they’re more than ready to defend their territory. • That said, Kangals are wonderful companions, too. • If you’re thinking about adopting a Kangal dog, it’s important to know what you’re in for. • These are not like your standard dog breed. • Thus, they have some unique care requirements that you need to consider. • They’re often confused with the Anatolian Shepherd or Karabash, but the Kangal is totally a separate breed. • Shepherds and breeders spent centuries perfecting the Kangal breed to ensure that the right physical and mental traits were present. • Most of those traits are still intact, giving us a glimpse into the past. • Strict breeding standards in Turkey have helped keep the Kangal breed relatively unchanged through several centuries. • Today, Kangals are still a huge part of Turkish culture. • This is especially true in the Sivas province. • There are two government breeding facilities in Sivas, which is the same area where these dogs originated from. • Of course, the breed has spread throughout the world as well now. • They are quite rare compared to other breeds, but Sivas breeders continue to export the dogs to Europe, the United States, and even Africa. • They have a huge demand in the areas where humans and wild animals share their territory. • and why shouldn't they be loved, they've served the farmers over their for centuries. • Hungry wolves have been reported to attack race horses, smaller or medium pet dogs, live stock specially sheep. • A pack of wolves will kill maximum number of sheep even though they need only one or two to feed on. • One of the reason is that they'll return several times to a kill to eat, and they often cache food for times when prey are scarce. • But when a rancher starts looking for his missing sheep, they effectively abandon the kill and won't come back to avoid the risk of being killed. • That is quite the conundrum, especially for ranchers, Losing several sheep is money out of their pocket, causing financial harm. • This is why most ranchers love dogs such as Kangals as they can keep wild predators at a bay. • Now coming back to our video the hungry fox tried to attack the duck. • It had bitten it few times but luckily the duck managed to escape and ran straight towards the Kangal that was chained to a wall. • Luckily the duck made it in time and hid behind its friend who was ready to defend it. • It was the lucky day for both duck and the fox, the duck was lucky as it survived the fox attack and on the other hand the fox was lucky that the dog was chained to the wall. • ► CREDIT and USAGE • ✘ Title: Club Diver • ✘ Music: Kevin MacLeod • ✘ License: CC BY 3.0 (http://goo.gl/BlcHZR) • ✘ Download: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-... • ISRC: USUAN1200020 • © 2012 Kevin MacLeod
