Bauxite remains in the spotlight of the aluminum market. China saw a further spike in seaborne bauxite prices last week. Despite the end of the wet season in Guinea, we observed relatively low bauxite shipments from the top supplier due to some disruptions. GAC has not resumed shipments and no timetable has been given. Meanwhile, there were some other disruptions driven by damaged road or equipment issues. Mysteel data showed that total bauxite shipments in Guinea were 2.5 million tonnes over Oct 25-31, up 11.3% on week and 12.7% on year. However, it’s lower than that in mid-Oct with over 3 million tonnes per week. • China's #alumina prices in the spot market jumped above 5000 yuan/t last week driven by short-term but frequent supply disruptions in northern regions. With the arrival of the heating season in northern China, alumina producers in Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and Henan have started to feel the impact of the environmental policy on the operation, causing market concerns over alumina supply, especially when smelters have begun to stock up for winter. We observed some production cuts in Henan and Hebei last week due to the restriction during the period of heavy air pollution. • For those interested in gaining deeper insights and data, a free trial of Mysteel Aluminum Weekly is available : https://www.mysteel.net/products-serv...
